Echocardiography in Mitral Stenosis.

Abstract
Echocardiographic studies of the mitral valve, aortic root and left atrium were performed in 31 patients with mitral stenosis, 15 complicated with atrial fibrillation and 16 without atrial fibrillation.
Diastolic closing velocity of anterior mitral leaflet(EF slope) was markedly decreased in every patient. (mean 17.6 4-7.3=/sec, ranging from 7.2 to 30.9xz/sec)Mitral valve mobility(DE amplitude)was averaged as 20.4 ¡¾4.9m, 13 out of 31 were above 20ms, and 4 out of 31 were less than 15zw. Mean diastolic separation of mitral leaflets was 10.9 ¡¾3.5m, and mean left ventricular outflow tract width was 27.0 ¡¾5.2ads. Mean left atrial dimension was 4.2 ¡¾0.9 cm. Left atrial dimension/aortic root dimension ratio was significantly higher in 15 patients with atrial fibrillation(2.28 ¡¾0.68) than in 16 patients with sinus rhythm(1.80 ¡¾0.52). In all patients the posterior mitral valve moved anteriorly in diastole. EF slope, DE amplitude and the distance of distolic separation of both leaflets have some statistical correlations each other, but there was a wide scatter.
